Pear Lake Ski Hut

Tuolumne Ostrander El Dorado Sierra Club

The Pear Lake Ski Hut, in Sequoia National Park, is open mid-December through mid-May (weather permitting).  It is located 3/8 of a mile north of Pear Lake at 9,200  feet. It is reached by ascending a fairly steep 6 miles, 2,000 ft elevation gain, starting at Wolverton Meadow. This is an advanced level ski/snowshoe trail offers a chance to explore the beautiful wilderness of the Sierra Nevada mountain range in the winter months. The hut sleeps ten people and is heated by a wood pellet stove.

You should be prepared for any possible type of weather and snow conditions . Low clouds and whiteouts are not uncommon, which can make following the trail very difficult. Breaking trail in deep fresh powder is exhausting and time-consuming. Not everyone makes it to the cabin as planned. Many skiers reach the cabin after dark, you should plan to start as early as possible. It is essential that survival equipment be taken. All equipment should be in excellent condition and all winter backcountry users should be familiar with proper avalanche techniques. Avalanche conditions exist at all times on the trail to Pear Lake.
