Mountain Biking in the Sierra Nevada
The Sierra Nevada mountains and foothill region provides multitude of great mountain biking. In the North, the Downieville area is known for it's premiere downhill mountain biking riding. Every year there is the Downieville Classic, a must for those interested in an exciting downhill event. The Lake Tahoe region has some of the best mountain biking anywhere, with famous rides such as the Flume Trail and Mr. Toads Wild Ride.
During the spring and fall mountain bike trails in the foothills make for some great riding, before the summer heat. Many of these rides are both challenging and scenic. During the heat of summer you may want to seek rides in the cooler climate of the High Sierra.
Many Sierra ski resorts provide lift operations during the summer, catering to bike riders that love the thrill of downhill decent without the effort of getting to the top.
