Hiking in the Sierra Nevada
The Sierra provides an abundance of hiking options, you will find a variety of hikes from the Northern Sierra to the Southern Sierra and many trails in the nearby foothills. One of the more difficult hikes is to summit Mt. Whitney; a twenty two mile round trip. This hike is both challenging and breath taking; you need to plan ahead to get a permit for this hike during the prime season.
Lake Tahoe
In the Tahoe Basin there is the Tahoe Rim Trail that circumnavigates Lake Tahoe, traversing the nearby mountains. This trail can be completed in sections or as part of a multi-day backpacking trip.
Yosemite National Park
Yosemite provides some of the best hiking in the Sierra; from the Valley floor you can take hikes to Nevada and Vernal fall, Yosemite Falls, and Glacier Point. For those's looking for a more challenging hike, you can hike to Half Dome and back in one day. There a some wonderful hiking trails out of Tuolumne Meadows, Glacier Point, Hetch Hetchy, and Wawona.
Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park
Sequoia and Kings Canyon has a multitude of hiking opportunities; everything from short walks through the giant sequoia trees to challenging hikes into the back country with destinations to beautiful water falls or alpine lakes.
