Sierra Biking

Biking in the Sierra Nevada

The Sierra Nevada region offers a great environment for both road as well as mountain biking. In the North, the Downieville area is known for it's premiere downhill mountain biking riding. Further South the Lake Tahoe region has some of the best mountain biking anywhere, with famous rides such as the Flume Trail and Mr. Toads Wild Ride.

For those interested in road biking, the foothills have a number of country roads that provide a variety of challenging and scenic road riding opportunities. For those interested in rides in the mountains there are many great rides, including a ride around beautiful Lake Tahoe.

Several of the Sierra ski areas provide lift operations during the summer, catering to bike riders that love the thrill of downhill decent without the pain of getting to the top. During the spring and fall there are rides around the foothills that are both challenging and scenic. While in the heat of summer you may want to seek rides in the cool climate of the High Sierra.
