Sierra Backpack

Backpacking the Sierra Nevada

The Sierra Nevada mountain range provides some of the best areas for backpacking, offering a mixture of national forest, wilderness areas, and national parks. The Northern Sierra mountains has a mixture of volcanic beauty and glacier carved granite. In the South the mountains are more rugged with higher peaks and more challenging trails.

There are countless miles of trails throughout the Sierra leading to pristine alpine lakes, granite basins, abundant streams, and grand beauty everywhere. The Pacific Crest trail and the John Muir trail traverse the higher elevations of Sierra range providing some great backpacking opportunities.

The spring time offers some of the most beautiful wildflowers, lush meadows, and fast flowing rivers, and waterfalls. Summertime is the most popular time to backpack as the temperatures are mild and trail conditions are at their best. During the fall you can hike to areas that have abundant aspen providing a magical array of fall colors. During winter, for those prepared for harsher conditions, you can camp in a blanket of fresh snow that provides a unique peaceful and solitude experience.
